Using Competitions to Rapidly Grow Your Sites!

I’m going to share with you a private method that I like to think I personally “invented” (I know I really didn’t but I adapted it).

This 3-step process has managed to accumulate my websites 1000’s of blog comments and 1000’s of social shares and engagements, as well as plenty of hype and traffic along the way.

The following method tends to work far better with a blog, but feel free to try it on your forums or websites. It can also work wonders inside a Facebook group or generally anywhere you can interact with your audience.

I’ve personally been using this method for years and it always seems to bring in good results. Oh yeah, did I mention it was free?! (well, most of the time).

I’m talking about my: 3-step competition method!

Step 1: Demand an action.

To start with, you’ll need to source a prize.

Now if you have an established website or business, this is where it can often be a little easier. Back when AffiliateFix was growing into what it is now, I was able to leverage our popularity by agreeing to partnerships with some of the best affiliate networks around. Whenever I wanted to launch a new competition, I had, and still do to this day, partners desperate to be involved.

I would ask my chosen partner to provide a prize for the competition, and in return, they would be able to set out the “action” all entrants would take.

Obviously for affiliate networks that action would, 9 times out of 10, be to join their affiliate network. However, this can differ depending on the partner you choose! It may be that the action is to “like our Facebook page” or “follow us on Twitter”. It doesn’t matter as long as the sponsor gets what they want out of the deal, and in return you get a prize to give away!

Now, if you have a relatively new project, then it may be the case that you have to provide the prize yourself, but something like an iTunes voucher or iPad would suffice. You can even CHOOSE to use this option, as this then gives you full control over the “action” and therefore gain even more from your competition.

So you have a prize and you have an action.

That’s step one done!

Step 2: Share on Social Media.

Step 2 on the competitions I run is ALWAYS to “share” the very fact that you’ve entered the competition on social media.

I do this for multiple purposes, so let me get into it.

Firstly, the chances are if I have an affiliate on my site who’s entered my competition, his friends on his social account will likely be involved in affiliate marketing as well. There’s no better way to get referrals to my site and giveaway than using the very people who enter it!

Imagine what effect having 100 entrants sharing the competition on Facebook would have on bringing people to the site. I guess the whole “viral” word comes into play here.

Secondly, it gives my site some social loving! 100’s of inbound links on any social network from 100% legitimate accounts is a good thing. It doesn’t just help now but goes towards your social and Google ranking in the long term.

Get your visitors and competition entrants to “share” the very fact they are entering your giveaway on social media!

Step two done, traffic sorted!

Step 3: Comment on the Post.

Blog comments look good on any blog or website.

It gives off the right impression that the community and publication is active, and it gets users into the mind state of commenting on your posts, which we all want.

This is also the perfect way for you to kill two birds with one stone.

I bet some of you were thinking in Step 2, “How do we check they have shared the post?” Well this is how! Simply have everyone who enters your competition leave a comment on it, saying they have fully entered, and leave their social link to prove they have shared it. Oh, and this also gives you 100’s of social accounts of your users that you can then target and also send to your social pages.

Step One: Sign up for SPONSOR LINK HERE

Step Two: Copy and Paste this status below onto your Facebook or Twitter:

“SITENAME and SPONSOR are giving away an amazing PRIZE, I just entered and you can enter now here: COMPETITION LINK”

Step Three: Comment on this blog post with the link of your status for proof (Facebook/Twitter) and tell us why you’d like to win.

Done!
